What is diffuse hair loss, or chronic telogen effluvium?

Diffuse hair loss, also known as chronic telogen effluvium, is characterized by uniform hair loss across the entire scalp. It is usually caused by a disruption in the hair growth cycle, in which many hairs prematurely enter the resting and shedding phases. Triggers can include hormonal fluctuations, infections, medications, nutritional deficiencies, or stress. The hair follicles usually remain intact, so hair can generally grow back once the hair cycle stabilizes. It is advisable to consult a doctor to determine possible causes.
